ExpresSo is PTT's (Thailand's National Energy Company - Ranked 206 in Fortune 500) Corporate Innovation arm. We have built our portfolio, predominantly in the Cleantech space, through both investing and venture building. Additionally we are actively building a decarbonization ecosystem in Thailand to accelerate the decarbonization of local industries beyond PTT Group businesses. However, we are acively pursuing other areas beyond Cleantech, including but not limited to mobility solutions, smart industry, and wellness.

INNOVATION LAB

“Venture Builder” exists to develop the new business S-Curve for PTT with the aim of growing billion-dollar revenue companies in the next 5-10 years.

At Venture Builder (VB), we adopt startups’ mindsets, collaborate with startups and tech/business partners to co-develop solutions, and introduce these solutions into the corporate ecosystem. Together, we incubate and grow new businesses across multiple energy sectors, including electrification, mobility, energy efficiency, sustainability, and interconnectivity. Our Venture Builders work synergistically across various PTT groups and with external business partners with the mission of building PTT’s new business S-curve.

VENTURE CAPITAL INVESTMENT

PTT Venture Capital is looking to invest and work with startups who are futuristic and have global mindsets. We work with funds, corporates and startups around the world to create a better and more sustainable planet.

To accelerate the better energy future in Thailand, PTT established Corporate Venture Capital team since the beginning of 2017 to invest globally into venture funds and high growth potential companies with strategic benefits to PTT Group. CVC seeks technologies that electrify energy system, enable better transportation, make energy usage more efficiency, enhance sustainability, enable the use of internet of things in industries and other new kind of solutions which could become growth drivers. CVC collaborates closely with startups to commercialize their innovation and support their journey.

Transition

Five major global megatrends that drive the transition in energy industry include decarbonization of the power system, distributed energy resources (DERs), electrification of transport, new customer preference, and digitization. These trends have transformed the electricity landscape of 21st Century from one directional flows of electron, money and data which customers sit at the end of the value chain to bidirectional flows which customers sit at the heart of the value chain.

Decarbonization of the power system comes from two main factors i.e. legally binding global climate deal of the Paris Agreement on climate change and the significant falling price of renewables. These drive greater deployment and investment in renewables globally.

Distributed energy resources (DERs): Declining costs of solar pv and battery contribute to a greater adoption of DERs. People can generate their own electricity. As a result, this creates new kind of utilities. The largest distributed solar providers are becoming the next utilities. Utilities evolve towards DER integrator & DER services market facilitator.

Growing urbanization and the increasing traffic congestion in cities has brought about many environmental and personal mobility challenges.
